Happenings in the Parish | Acontecimientos en la parroquia

Dear parish family and friends,

Here’s the week at a glance – both last week, and the week to come.  At the Easter Vigil, we had 7 catechumens – 3 from the parish and 4 college students – baptized and initiated.  And this past Divine Mercy Sunday, we had 11 more people join the Catholic Church through the other sacraments of initiation – 4 from the parish and 7 college students.  And speaking of Divine Mercy Sunday, this past week we had over 100 people attend our bilingual Divine Mercy holy hour.  I was so amazed at how well attended it was!  And then this past Saturday, we had 43 children receive the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in Holy Communion for the first time.  What a beautiful spring week! 

And now this week, we celebrate Administrative Professionals Day.  I’d like to thank our church and school staff in a special way – and thank them again!  And when you see them this week, you can thank them again (and again) too.  I am grateful for all the hard work that they are doing.  I know I hit the ground running since I arrived here 10 months ago.  And, they have been running right along side me.  In a special way, the week before last, we said hello to our new parish manager, Gerald Michel.  It’s a significant learning curve, but he’s keeping pace, and is a great addition to our entire parish staff.

Also, coming soon to a parish near you… elections for the parish pastoral council and the school advisory board will be taking place.  I am so encouraged by the level of interest shown in both the number of candidates and the skill sets those people would provide to these very important committees!  Stay tuned. 

And speaking of very important, don’t forget to register by May 8 for the V.I.V. Dinner for our Very Important Volunteers on May 22 at 6:30 pm at the Xavier Center.  Basically, if you have volunteered in any capacity for St. Francis Xavier Parish (church or school) in any way over the past year, you and your immediate family are most welcome to register.  Just email or call the parish office to make your reservation.

Querida familia parroquial y amigos:

Aquí tienen un resumen de la semana: tanto la que acaba de terminar como la que está por venir. Durante la Vigilia Pascual, tuvimos a 7 catecúmenos —3 de la parroquia y 4 estudiantes universitarios— que fueron bautizados e iniciados en la fe. Y este pasado Domingo de la Divina Misericordia, otras 11 personas se unieron a la Iglesia Católica a través de los demás sacramentos de iniciación: 4 de la parroquia y 7 estudiantes universitarios. Y hablando del Domingo de la Divina Misericordia, la semana pasada tuvimos a más de 100 personas asistiendo a nuestra Hora Santa bilingüe de la Divina Misericordia. ¡Me quedé asombrado de ver la gran asistencia que hubo! Y luego, este pasado sábado, 43 niños recibieron por primera vez el Cuerpo y la Sangre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo en la Sagrada Comunión. ¡Qué hermosa semana de primavera!

Y ahora, esta semana, celebramos el Día de los Profesionales Administrativos. Me gustaría agradecer de una manera especial a nuestro personal de la iglesia y de la escuela... ¡y darles las gracias una vez más! Y cuando los vean esta semana, ustedes también pueden darles las gracias de nuevo (y otra vez). Estoy muy agradecido por todo el arduo trabajo que están realizando. Sé que comencé a trabajar a toda máquina desde el momento en que llegué aquí, hace 10 meses. Y ellos han estado corriendo justo a mi lado. De manera especial, la semana antepasada, le dimos la bienvenida a nuestro nuevo administrador parroquial, Gerald Michel. Es una curva de aprendizaje significativa, pero él está siguiendo el ritmo y es una gran incorporación para todo nuestro equipo parroquial.

Además, muy pronto, en una parroquia cerca de usted... se llevarán a cabo las elecciones para el Consejo Pastoral Parroquial y para la Junta Asesora Escolar. ¡Me siento muy animado por el nivel de interés demostrado, tanto por el número de candidatos como por las habilidades y talentos que estas personas aportarían a estos comités tan importantes! Manténganse atentos.

Y hablando de cosas muy importantes: no olviden inscribirse antes del 8 de mayo para la Cena V.I.V. (Very Important Volunteers / Voluntarios Muy Importantes), que se celebrará el 22 de mayo a las 6:30 p. m. en el Centro Xavier. Básicamente, si usted ha sido voluntario en cualquier capacidad para la Parroquia de San Francisco Javier (ya sea en la iglesia o en la escuela) durante el último año, usted y su familia directa son más que bienvenidos a inscribirse. Simplemente envíe un correo electrónico o llame a la oficina parroquial para hacer su reservación.
