Dear parish family and friends,
To those who attend weekend Masses at the historic church, welcome back! This weekend, we resume our previous schedule there: 4 pm on Saturdays (with Confessions immediately afterwards), and 7:30 and 10:30 am on Sundays. Also, all holy day Masses will take place in the church as well. As part of our grand re-opening, you’ll notice the following:
While the HVAC system (cooling and heating) has not yet been replaced, it will be in the next couple of months – at long last!
Due to two gracious benefactors and the work of Bob Omick and our Facilities Committee (THANK YOU, ALL!), the lights in the church have been replaced with cost-saving, warm-light LED bulbs, providing such a soft, inviting glow.
New candle banks in the two votive areas with the standard 4-hour candles have been installed. When we offer a prayer and then light a votive candle, it symbolizes the enduring nature of our prayer, which comes to the Father through Jesus, who is the light of the world.
The sound system was re-balanced to achieve the best possible quality.
And finally, the church had a deep cleaning to prepare for our full return.
Additionally, a little birdy told me that our Community CLI group will be providing refreshments after Masses at the church this weekend!
Did you know that the building known as the church is called the church because the body of believers who meet there is called the church? In fact, as the Body of Christ, we are the Church – children of God our Father. That word church is ‘ekklesia’ in Greek (the original language of the Church), meaning “called out from”. And so, although as believers we live in the world, we are not of the world. And so, we are called out of the world for a time, to be renewed by God’s grace through His Word and the sacraments. We then return into the world – our daily lives – in order to be a bright light in the world, until the Lord calls us at last out of the world to our heavenly homeland.
Speaking of homes, on Oct. 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, Fr. Pray and I would like to invite you to an open house at the rectory (the house where the priests live) to meet you personally in a friendly setting – the address is in the letter you are receiving in the mail this week.
Finally, in that letter, I’m asking ALL parishioners to kindly update their contact information so as to update our parish registry. We know that many times changes since your original registration take place, and we would like to have your most up-to-date information to more effectively communicate with you. In the letter there will be further directions on how to do this in an easy way – either online or via the paper copy enclosed in the mailing. It is important that every family updates their information. Thank you.

Estimados familiares y amigos de la parroquia
A quienes asisten a las misas de fin de semana en la histórica iglesia, ¡bienvenidos de nuevo! Este fin de semana, regresamos a nuestro horario anterior: sábados a las 4 p. m. (con confesiones inmediatamente después) y domingos a las 7:30 y 10:30 a. m. Además, todas las misas de los días festivos se celebrarán en la iglesia. Como parte de nuestra gran reapertura, notarán lo siguiente:
Aunque el sistema de climatización (aire acondicionado y calefacción) aún no se ha reemplazado, lo será en los próximos meses, ¡por fin!
Gracias a dos generosos benefactores y al trabajo de Bob Omick y nuestro Comité de Instalaciones (¡GRACIAS A TODOS!), las luces de la iglesia se han reemplazado por bombillas LED de luz cálida y económica, que proporcionan una luz suave y acogedora.
Se han instalado nuevos bancos de velas en las dos zonas votivas con las velas estándar de 4 horas. Cuando ofrecemos una oración y luego encendemos una vela votiva, simbolizamos la naturaleza perdurable de nuestra oración, que llega al Padre a través de Jesús, quien es la luz del mundo.
Se reajustó el sistema de sonido para lograr la mejor calidad posible.
Finalmente, la iglesia tuvo una limpieza profunda para prepararla para nuestro regreso.
Además, un pajarito me contó que nuestro grupo comunitario CLI ofrecerá refrescos después de las misas en la iglesia este fin de semana.
¿Sabían que el edificio conocido como la iglesia se llama iglesia porque el cuerpo de creyentes que se reúne allí se llama iglesia? De hecho, como Cuerpo de Cristo, somos la Iglesia: hijos de Dios nuestro Padre. La palabra iglesia es “ekklesia” en griego (el idioma original de la Iglesia), que significa “llamados a salir de”. Y así, aunque como creyentes vivimos en el mundo, no somos del mundo. Por lo tanto, somos llamados a salir del mundo por un tiempo, para ser renovados por la gracia de Dios a través de su Palabra y los sacramentos. Luego regresamos al mundo, a nuestra vida cotidiana, para ser una luz brillante en él, hasta que el Señor finalmente nos llame a salir del mundo y llevarnos a nuestra patria celestial.
Hablando de hogares, el 10 de octubre, de 5:30 PM a 7:30 PM, el P. Pray y yo los invitamos a una jornada de puertas abiertas en la rectoría (la casa donde viven los sacerdotes) para conocerlos personalmente en un ambiente acogedor. La dirección está en la carta que recibirán por correo esta semana.
Finalmente, en esa carta, les pido a todos los feligreses que actualicen su información de contacto para que podamos actualizar nuestro registro parroquial. Sabemos que la información cambia con frecuencia desde su registro original, y nos gustaría tener su información más actualizada para comunicarnos con ustedes de manera más eficaz. En la carta encontrarán instrucciones adicionales sobre cómo hacerlo de forma sencilla, ya sea en línea o mediante la copia impresa incluida en el envío.
