Updates Around the Parish | Actualizaciones en la parroquia

Dear parish family and friends,

We are now diving deeper into Lent.  Remember that each day is a new day to begin again.

I want to give you some important updates about a variety of things:

First, I’m pleased to report that our HVAC system is now fully installed.  If you haven’t heard anything, that means it’s working correctly – the failing system was quite noisy, wasn’t it?  I’m grateful for the help of Jeff McCleaf, Bob Plank, and the Facilities Committee for helping make this possible.

Also, an update on the 2025 Diocesan Annual Campaign.  You all are simply amazing.  With a shortfall of $55,000 as we entered 2026, we were able to close the gap – not only meeting our parish goal of $163,754.66 for 2025 – but exceeding it by over $15,000!  I am so humbled and grateful for your generosity – truly.  And… as fate (or at least the calendar) would have it, the kickoff for the 2026 DAC will take place the weekend of March 8th. 😊

Speaking of feeling humble and grateful, that is exactly how Fr. Pray and I feel with all of the hard work done on refreshing the rectory.  What began as a quest just to repaint the walls and install new flooring ultimately became a renovation born of the generosity and labor of so many.  For nearly five weeks, over 40 parishioners came at various times to not only paint, but also to make repairs to walls and various fixtures, install new appliances and lighting, and make significant improvements to organization.  I am so grateful for the amazing efforts of Eileen Pabody, Kathy Reid, Jeff and Cindie Kane, Joe and Sharon Hall, Amy McVey, and SO many others from both the Anglo and Hispanic communities.  I jokingly told them that we could have our own HGTV series – “Rectory Renos”.  Later in the spring, there will be another open house, so you can come and see the fruits of their labor.

Also, this Friday, February 27, was Susan Thresher’s last day as our outgoing business manager.  I am grateful for Susan’s hard work these past several years here at St. Francis.  As the application period has now come to a close, we will soon have her successor hired.

And finally, an update on the Needs List, which listed various projects at the historic church, the Xavier Center, the parish office, the rectory, and the cemetery, in need of completion.  Of the 38 projects listed, 26 are already fully funded through your generosity, and 2 smaller diocesan savings accounts not being utilized.  In addition, several weeks ago, I already met with the Facilities Committee to begin talking about how we will complete those projects now in the months to come. 

There are so many wonderful things happening here at St. Francis Xavier!  Thank you.

Querida familia y amigos de la parroquia:

Nos estamos adentrando en la Cuaresma. Recuerden que cada día es un nuevo comienzo.

Quiero compartirles algunas novedades importantes sobre diversos temas:

Primero, me complace informarles que nuestro sistema de climatización (HVAC) ya está completamente instalado. Si no han oído nada, significa que funciona correctamente; el sistema que fallaba era bastante ruidoso, ¿verdad? Agradezco la ayuda de Jeff McCleaf, Bob Plank y el Comité de Instalaciones por hacer esto posible. 

También les quiero informar sobre la Campaña Anual Diocesana 2025. Son todos increíbles. Con un déficit de $55,000 al comenzar 2026, logramos cerrar la brecha, no solo alcanzando nuestra meta parroquial de $163,754.66 para 2025, ¡sino superándola en más de $15,000! Me siento muy honrado y agradecido por su generosidad, de verdad. Y… como el destino (o al menos el calendario) quiso, el inicio del DAC 2026 será el fin de semana del 8 de marzo. 😊

Hablando de humildad y agradecimiento, así es exactamente como nos sentimos el Padre Pray y yo con todo el arduo trabajo realizado para renovar la rectoría. Lo que comenzó como una simple tarea de pintar las paredes e instalar pisos nuevos, finalmente se convirtió en una renovación fruto de la generosidad y el trabajo de muchos. Durante casi cinco semanas, más de 40 feligreses vinieron en diferentes momentos no solo para pintar, sino también para reparar paredes y diversos accesorios, instalar nuevos electrodomésticos e iluminación, y realizar mejoras significativas en la organización. Estoy muy agradecido por los increíbles esfuerzos de Eileen Pabody, Kathy Reid, Jeff y Cindie Kane, Joe y Sharon Hall, Amy McVey y tantos otros de las comunidades anglosajona e hispana. En broma, les dije que podríamos tener nuestra propia serie de HGTV: "Renovaciones de la Rectoria". Más adelante en la primavera, habrá otra jornada de puertas abiertas, para que puedan venir a ver el fruto de su labor.

Además, este viernes 27 de febrero fue el último día de Susan Thresher como nuestra gerente de negocios saliente. Agradezco el arduo trabajo de Susan durante los últimos años aquí en San Francisco. Como el período de solicitud ya finalizó, pronto contrataremos a su sucesor. 

Y, por último, una actualización sobre la Lista de Necesidades, que enumera varios proyectos en la iglesia histórica, el Centro Xavier, la oficina parroquial, la rectoría y el cementerio que necesitan completarse. De los 38 proyectos enumerados, 26 ya están completamente financiados gracias a su generosidad, y dos pequeñas cuentas de ahorro diocesanas no se están utilizando. Además, hace varias semanas me reuní con el Comité de Instalaciones para comenzar a hablar sobre cómo completaremos esos proyectos en los próximos meses.
