Blessings of Generosity and the Epiphany | Bendiciones de generosidad y la Epifanía

Dear parish family and friends,

Happy New Year’s! May the peace, joy, and strength of our Lord Jesus Christ and the prayers of His holy mother be with you and your family all through this new year now here! Fr. Pray and I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of you again for your generous financial contributions this past calendar year. Your stewardship and support of our parish enables us to continue being a spiritual home for so many to grow in our beautiful Catholic faith as we worship the one God, living and true. And speaking of thank-yous – thank you as well for all your goodies and other gifts of kindness that you have blessed us with. As a little joke, I like to call the rectory kitchen countertop the site of the “Reverse Santa Claus Effect” – Santa goes to everyone’s house to get lots of cookies. Well for priests, lots of cookies come to our house  

This weekend, we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord. In case you’re wondering, Epiphany means revelation or manifestation. It’s on today’s feast that we celebrate God revealing or manifesting Himself in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ. In other words, God is revealed to His people and to the world through the following events: the Magi coming to bring the Christ- child gifts and to worship Him; the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan, when the Holy Spirit descends upon Him and He is revealed as the Son of God; and the miracle at the wedding at Cana, when Jesus performs His first miracle in public, revealing to all His divinity. On this feast, historically (especially in years gone by), the priest would come to parishioners’ houses to bless them, writing a small blessing above the main door. While today in our setting this is a bit more challenging to accomplish in one day – especially at a parish as large as ours – we are making available to you cards with these “blessings” for you to take with you – one per home. Together as a family, simply offer the prayers on the back, and then place the card over the main door in your home. These cards can be found in the narthex of the church and the lobby of the Xavier Center.

Querida familia parroquial y amigos,

¡Feliz Año Nuevo! Que la paz, la alegría y la fortaleza de nuestro Señor Jesucristo y las oraciones de su santa Madre los acompañen a ustedes y a sus familias durante este nuevo año. El Padre Pray y yo queremos aprovechar esta oportunidad para agradecerles sinceramente sus generosas contribuciones económicas durante el año pasado. Su generosidad y apoyo a nuestra parroquia nos permiten seguir siendo un hogar espiritual para que muchos crezcan en nuestra hermosa fe católica, adorando al único Dios, vivo y verdadero. Y hablando de agradecimientos, gracias también por todas las delicias y demás muestras de cariño con las que nos han bendecido. En broma, me gusta llamar a la encimera de la cocina de la casa parroquial el lugar del "Efecto de  Papá Noel al reves": Papá Noel va a casa de todos a recoger muchas galletas. Bueno, en el caso de los sacerdotes, ¡muchas galletas llegan a nuestra casa! 😊

Este fin de semana celebramos la Epifanía del Señor. Por si se lo preguntan, Epifanía significa revelación o manifestación. En esta fiesta celebramos que Dios se revela o se manifiesta en la persona de su Hijo, Jesucristo. En otras palabras, Dios se revela a su pueblo y al mundo a través de los siguientes acontecimientos: la llegada de los Reyes Magos para ofrecerle regalos al Niño Jesús y adorarlo; el Bautismo de Jesús en el Jordán, cuando el Espíritu Santo desciende sobre Él y se revela como el Hijo de Dios; y el milagro en las bodas de Caná, cuando Jesús realiza su primer milagro en público, revelando a todos su divinidad. En esta fiesta, históricamente (sobre todo en años pasados), el sacerdote visitaba las casas de los feligreses para bendecirlas, escribiendo una pequeña bendición sobre la puerta principal. Si bien hoy en día esto es un poco más difícil de lograr en un solo día, especialmente en una parroquia tan grande como la nuestra, ponemos a su disposición tarjetas con estas "bendiciones" para que se las lleven, una por hogar. En familia, simplemente recen las oraciones que se encuentran al dorso y luego coloquen la tarjeta sobre la puerta principal de su casa. Estas tarjetas se encuentran en el vestíbulo de la iglesia y en la entrada del Centro Xavier.
