Praise and Thanksgiving for Retiring Music Staff and New Director of Music | Elogios y acción de gracias para el personal musical jubilado y el nuevo director musical

Dear Families and Friends of St. Francis Xavier Parish,

How fitting that the Psalm of this weekend so providentially aligns with the bittersweet day that we must give effusive thanks to Mary Smith and Cindie Kane for their years of leadership in our parish music ministry.

After the previous music director & choir director left, Fr. Pistone, in his characteristic unrefusable way, asked Mary to be the music director and choir director. Mary, despite the obligations to her position at Gettysburg College and her family (and newborn daughter!), she did this for a year and let Fr. Pistone know that it was a bit much, but if someone else could lead the choir, she could continue as music director. And so Fr. Pistone plied his craft to Cindie, who agreed, despite not feeling that she was really well trained to lead a choir. I’d say she has done an amazing job with how strong and musical our choir is! So let us thank Mary and Cindie not only for their years of service, but their example of saying “yes” with courage and trust to accept the invitation from Fr. Pistone, who knew they could do it, even if they weren’t as sure themselves!

Now that Mary’s “newborn daughter” is graduating high school, and Mary’s position at the college which is too demanding on her time to be able to continue as our music director (and with two more kids since the daughter!), and Cindie is retired from forty-two years as a teacher and principal in Upper Adams, and is ready to retire again as choir director (although she’s still teaching Spanish at our school!), their very generous time of service to our parish music ministry draws to a close. We are very grateful to them. 

And so again, it is with great joy and appreciation that we prepare the way for Mr. Matt Robinson to take over both of these positions as one, becoming more familiar with the music heritage and history of our parish, and leading us along the next part of our musical journey!

Queridas familias y amigos de la Parroquia de San Francisco Javier:

“Aclama al Señor tierra entera, sirvan al Señor con alegría; entren en su presencia con aclamaciones.” (Salmo 100:1-2)

Qué oportuno que el Salmo de este fin de semana coincida tan providencialmente con este día agridulce en el que debemos agradecer efusivamente a Mary Smith y Cindie Kane por sus años de liderazgo en el ministerio musical de nuestra parroquia.

Tras la marcha del anterior director musical y del coro, el Padre Pistone, con su habitual irrenunciabilidad, le pidió a Mary que fuera la directora musical y del coro. Mary, a pesar de las obligaciones con su puesto en Gettysburg College y su familia (¡y su hija recién nacida!), se dedicó a esto durante un año y le hizo saber al Padre Pistone que era demasiado, pero que si alguien más podía dirigir el coro, ella podría continuar como directora musical. Y así, el Padre Pistone le ofreció su talento a Cindie, quien aceptó, a pesar de no sentirse realmente bien preparada para dirigir un coro. ¡Diría que ha hecho un trabajo increíble con la fuerza y la musicalidad de nuestro coro! Así que agradezcamos a Mary y Cindie no solo por sus años de servicio, sino también por su ejemplo de decir "sí" con valentía y confianza al aceptar la invitación del Padre Pistone, quien sabía que podían hacerlo, ¡aunque ellos mismos no estaban tan seguros!

Ahora que la "hija recién nacida" de Mary se está graduando de la preparatoria, y el puesto de Mary en la universidad le exige demasiado tiempo para continuar como nuestra directora musical (¡y con dos hijos más después de la hija!), y Cindie se jubiló tras cuarenta y dos años como maestra y directora en Upper Adams, y está lista para jubilarse de nuevo como directora de coro (¡aunque todavía enseña español en nuestra escuela!), su generoso tiempo de servicio a nuestro ministerio musical parroquial llega a su fin. Les estamos muy agradecidos.

Así pues, con gran alegría y agradecimiento, preparamos el camino para que el Sr. Matt Robinson asuma ambos cargos en un solo lugar, familiarizándose con el legado musical y la historia de nuestra parroquia, y guiándonos en la siguiente etapa de nuestro camino musical.
