Update on Parish Council | Actualización sobre el Consejo Parroquial

Dear parish family and friends,

The Parish Pastoral Council is a body of elected and appointed parishioners, who, together with the pastor, facilitate the pastoral vision and mission of the parish. This year our Pastoral Council has taken on the important work of serving as liaisons between me, as pastor, and all of our parish ministries and organizations. As you know, in family life communication is so important. And we have a big family here at St. Francis! And so, all the parish groups have been categorized into 6 main mission areas according to the diocesan guiding document, “One Who Serves”. Those areas of mission are: Evangelization, Education, Pastoral Ministry, Liturgy, Social Concerns & Outreach, and Ecumenism & Interfaith Concerns. In turn, the Pastoral Council members have divvied up the groups in each area, and are reaching out to the leader or main contact each month for dialogue. The purpose of all this is three-fold: 1) To allow groups to share any needs, concerns, or suggestions they have; 2) To allow me to communicate information effectively to all parish groups; and 3) To encourage groups to continue reflecting on their work and ministry in light of our overall mission as a parish.

At this time, we’re beginning to prepare our annual budget for the fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30. As I was thinking about our parish groups, it got me reflecting on the financial considerations that some of them may have. Some of our groups fundraise or have other ways to support themselves. I learned in the seminary that “parish budgets speak your theology”. In other words, whether intended or not, whatever is financially supported is a pastoral priority in on way or another. And so, it is part of my vision that the parish budget would assist in supporting their work and ministry.

Having said the above, I’d like to invite any parish ministries and organizations looking for parish financial support to submit a simple budget of income and expenses for the next fiscal year to me by March 31. Doing so will not guarantee the funding requested. And, of course, it will all depend on the number of requests. But, in some way, this is meant to tangibly indicate that our whole parish is a shared ministry that we are co-responsible for.

Also, at this time we are inviting parishioners interested in serving on the Parish Pastoral Council (and also, the School Advisory Board) to self-nominate. Querida familia parroquial y amigos:

El Consejo Pastoral Parroquial es un grupo compuesto por feligreses, tanto elegidos como designados, quienes —junto con el párroco— facilitan la visión y la misión pastoral de la parroquia. Este año, nuestro Consejo Pastoral ha asumido el importante labor de servir como enlace entre mi persona —como párroco— y todos los ministerios y organizaciones de nuestra parroquia. Como bien saben, en la vida familiar la comunicación es sumamente importante. ¡Y aquí en San Francisco tenemos una familia grande! Por ello, todos los grupos parroquiales han sido clasificados en seis áreas misionales principales, de acuerdo con el documento orientador diocesano titulado ”One Who Serves” (Aquel que sirve). Dichas áreas misionales son: Evangelización, Educación, Ministerio Pastoral, Liturgia, Asuntos Sociales y Extensión Comunitaria, y Ecumenismo y Asuntos Interreligiosos. Los miembros del Consejo Pastoral se han distribuido los grupos de cada área y se ponen en contacto mensualmente con el líder o contacto principal de cada uno para entablar un diálogo. El propósito de todo esto es triple: 1) Permitir que los grupos compartan cualquier necesidad, inquietud o sugerencia que tengan; 2) Permitirme comunicar información de manera eficaz a todos los grupos parroquiales; y 3) Alentar a los grupos a seguir reflexionando sobre su labor y ministerio a la luz de nuestra misión global como parroquia.

En este momento, estamos comenzando a preparar nuestro presupuesto anual para el año fiscal, el cual abarca desde el 1 de julio hasta el 30 de junio. Al reflexionar sobre nuestros grupos parroquiales, me puse a considerar los aspectos financieros que algunos de ellos podrían tener. Algunos de nuestros grupos realizan actividades de recaudación de fondos o cuentan con otros medios para autofinanciarse. Aprendí en el seminario que “los presupuestos parroquiales reflejan la teología de la comunidad”. En otras palabras, ya sea de manera intencionada o no, todo aquello que recibe apoyo financiero se convierte, de una forma u otra, en una prioridad pastoral. Entonces, forma parte de mi visión que el presupuesto parroquial contribuya a respaldar la labor y el ministerio de estos grupos.

Habiendo expuesto lo anterior, me gustaría invitar a todos aquellos ministerios y organizaciones parroquiales que requieran apoyo financiero de la parroquia a que me presenten, a más tardar el 31 de marzo, un presupuesto sencillo de ingresos y gastos para el próximo año fiscal. La presentación de dicho presupuesto no garantiza la obtención de los fondos solicitados. Y, por supuesto, la asignación final dependerá del número total de solicitudes recibidas. Sin embargo, de alguna manera, esto tiene el propósito de indicar de forma tangible que toda nuestra parroquia es un ministerio compartido del cual somos corresponsables.

Asimismo, en este momento estamos invitando a los feligreses interesados ​​en servir en el Consejo Pastoral Parroquial (y también en la Junta Asesora Escolar) a postularse voluntariamente.
