Dear parish family and friends,

Thank you to all those who have completed the parish family survey.  If you haven’t had the chance to turn that back in yet, please do so now.  You can also find the survey on our parish website.  In the next several weeks, the results of that survey will be compiled and shared with the parish.   

Also, this coming week I’ll be away on retreat.  As priests, we are required to take a retreat each year.  I usually like to go to Franciscan University in Steubenville, where the annual priest retreat takes place with priests from all over the country.  It is a Spirit-filled time of rest and renewal with great speakers and times of prayer.

As we move into summer, many of us – including Fr. Pray and I – look forward to a slower pace, warmer days, gatherings, and the like.  These are good gifts from God to be grateful for.  In reality, though, rest is not a luxury; it’s a necessary part of the rhythm of life.  Even as Genesis reminds us, it was after the six days of creation that God rests from all His good work.  How much more then do we need time to be renewed in body, mind, and soul.

For some, vacation can be a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with family, enjoy the beauty of creation, visit new places, and step away from the busyness of daily responsibilities.  But even when we’re away from home, we are never away from God.  And in fact, if you’re not familiar with masstimes.org you can find Mass no matter where you’re traveling.  Sometimes it can be fun while away to visit another Catholic church and see how they do things, and also to be renewed in gratitude for our own parish family!

Querida familia parroquial y amigos:

Gracias a todos los que han completado la encuesta para las familias de la parroquia.  Si aún no han tenido la oportunidad de entregarla, por favor háganlo ahora.  También pueden encontrar la encuesta en el sitio web de nuestra parroquia.  En las próximas semanas, se revisarán los resultados de esta encuesta y se compartirán con la parroquia.

También, la próxima semana estaré fuera participando en un retiro. Como sacerdotes, estamos obligados a realizar un retiro cada año.  Por lo general, me gusta asistir a la Universidad Franciscana de Steubenville, donde se lleva a cabo el retiro anual para sacerdotes provenientes de todo el país.  Es un tiempo de descanso y renovación lleno del Espíritu, que cuenta con excelentes conferencistas y momentos de oración.

Al entrar en la temporada de verano, muchos de nosotros —incluidos el P. Pray y yo— esperamos un ritmo más pausado, días más cálidos, reuniones sociales y cosas así.  Estos son buenos dones de Dios por los cuales debemos estar agradecidos.  Sin embargo, en realidad, el descanso no es un lujo; es una parte necesaria del ritmo de la vida.  Como nos recuerda el libro del Génesis, fue después de los seis días de la creación cuando Dios descansó de toda su buena obra.  ¡Cuánto más necesitamos nosotros, entonces, tiempo para renovarnos en cuerpo, mente y alma! 

Para algunos, las vacaciones pueden ser una oportunidad maravillosa para reencontrarse con la familia, disfrutar de la belleza de la creación, visitar nuevos lugares y alejarse del ajetreo de las responsabilidades diarias.  Pero incluso cuando estamos lejos de casa, nunca estamos lejos de Dios.  De hecho, si no conocen el sitio masstimes.org, pueden encontrar dónde asistir a Misa sin importar a dónde viajen.  A veces, puede resultar interesante visitar otra iglesia católica durante los viajes y ver cómo celebran allí, ¡y también renovar nuestra gratitud por nuestra propia familia parroquial!
