Dear parish family and friends,
I hope you all had an enjoyable Thanksgiving, however you may have spent it. I had a good time “up the line” with my family and enjoyed some of my uncle’s homemade wine. He always likes to try new things out on us. The apple is good, not so much the cucumber! This Sunday, November 30, begins the season of Advent, which is our annual time of liturgical and spiritual preparation for both the second coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ at the end of time, as well as the celebration of our Savior’s birth on Christmas. As we begin the liturgical season of Advent, please also mark your calendars for our parish Penance Service on Saturday, December 20, at the Xavier Center. Starting at 10 am, we will begin with a short prayer service, followed by the opportunity for Reconciliation. During this time, Eucharistic Adoration will also be taking place in the Multipurpose Room to deepen our encounter with Jesus in this experience of mercy. There will be many priests hearing Confessions (in both English and Spanish) that morning. I encourage each of you, especially if it’s been a while, to come to Reconciliation as a means of preparing yourself spiritually for Christmas. Or, if you’ve had a negative experience in Confession that’s holding you back, come give yourself the opportunity to replace that memory with a positive encounter. Additionally, you’ll find the schedule for Penance Services at neighboring parishes in the bulletin, in case Dec. 20 doesn’t work for your schedule. And you’ll find guides to making a good Confession on the confessional (reconciliation room) doors in the church or on our parish website at www.stfxcc.org/confessions.
Finally, this weekend we hold our Rite of Acceptance and Welcoming for our candidates (those who are already baptized) and catechumens (those who are not yet baptized) in OCIA (the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults). OCIA is the process by which someone explores the possibility of being received into the fullness of the Catholic faith after a time of formation and education. Do you know someone who has an openness to the Catholic faith and might like to learn more? Invite them to join us for Christian Initiation! Este domingo 30 de noviembre comienza el Adviento, nuestro tiempo anual de preparación litúrgica y espiritual para la segunda venida de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo al final de los tiempos, así como para la celebración del nacimiento de nuestro Salvador en Navidad. Pueden consultar los siguientes recursos para aprovechar al máximo el Adviento:

Al comenzar el tiempo litúrgico de Adviento, por favor, anoten en sus calendarios nuestra Liturgia de Penitencia parroquial el sábado 20 de diciembre en el Centro Xavier. A partir de las 10:00 a. m., iniciaremos con una breve oración, seguida de la oportunidad de Reconciliarse. Durante este tiempo, también se llevará a cabo la Adoración Eucarística en el Salón de Usos Múltiples para profundizar nuestro encuentro con Jesús en esta experiencia de misericordia. Habrán muchos sacerdotes escuchando confesiones (tanto en inglés como en español) esa mañana. Los animo a todos, especialmente si ha pasado tiempo desde su última confesión, a que vengan a Reconciliarse como una forma de prepararse espiritualmente para la Navidad. O, si han tenido una mala experiencia en la Confesión que les impide acercarse a Jesús, vengan y dense la oportunidad de reemplazar ese recuerdo con un encuentro positivo. Además, en el boletín parroquial encontrará el horario de los Servicios de Penitencia en las parroquias vecinas, por si el 20 de diciembre no le conviene. También encontrará guías para hacer una buena Confesión en las puertas del confesionario (sala de reconciliación) de la iglesia o en nuestra página web parroquial: www.stfxcc.org/confessions.
Finalmente, este fin de semana celebraremos nuestro Rito de Aceptación y Bienvenida para nuestros candidatos (bautizados) y catecúmenos (no bautizados) en la OCIA (Orden de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos). La OCIA es el proceso mediante el cual una persona explora la posibilidad de ser recibida en la plenitud de la fe católica tras un tiempo de formación y educación. ¿Conoce a alguien abierto a la fe católica que quiera saber más? ¡Invítelo a unirse a nosotros para la Iniciación Cristiana!
